2008 Kelley Cares 5K Run/Walk
Looking for End of Season Team Activity?

Kelley Swanson was an ASA recreation and travel and T.C Williams soccer alumna. The Kelley Cares foundation was created to support the ideals of Kelley and the wonderful programs in Alexandria that she worked with. 

This year’s race will be held Saturday, June 7, 2008, 8:00am at the George Washington Middle School.

All proceeds from the 2008 5K Run/Walk support the Therapeutic Recreation Program of Alexandria.

McSoccerfest

McDonald's McSoccerfest is a 4 V 4 tournament for ages 5-16 and adults.  Held June 21 and June 22 at Northrop Fields at Covenant Park, Columbia, Maryland. Please visit the website: www.mcsoccerfest2008.com/ for more information.

Father' Day All-StarTournament

FPYC would like to invite all youth recreational clubs to send teams to the 2008 Father's Day All-Star Tournament.  The tournament will be held on Fairfax Xounty and Fairfax City fields on June 14-15, and applications are due by May 10th.  The application form and rules are posted on the tournament website, www.fpycsoccer.org .

Last year over 470 teams from over 30 clubs participated in the boys and girls U8-U19 divisions, so don't delay in completing your club's application.

Kohl's American  Cup / Soccer Cup

The Kohl's AmericanCup / SoccerQuest is a 4 v 4 tournament that will be held June 21st and 22nd, 2008 at Ben Lomond Park, Manasas, VA (next to Splashtown Water Park.) 

The tournament is open to boys and girls, recreational and travel teams U6-U16.  The entry fee is $225.  The U6-U10 age groups will play on Saturday and U12-U16 will play on Sunday.  All teams are guaranteed three matches.

Each participant will receive a t-shirt, participation award, medal and a ticket to Splashtown Water Park.

Make a day of it- bring the whole family, play soccer, have a picnic lunch, then cool off at Splashtown!

U8/U9 Skills Clinics

The U8 Elite Skills Development Clinics were established to ease the transition from recreational soccer to travel soccer.  They began in the fall of 2005.  The weekly clinics provided both players and coaches with age appropriate skills development training in a fun and professional learning environment.  All sessions are directed by Ryan Quinn, Director of Coaching and Player Development.  These clinics were originally for U8s but many players showed interest in attending the clinics again so it has now expanded to include U9 players as well.  This program is sponsored by ASa so there is no additional cost to attend.  "We have seen great progress in the development of rising travel teams over the last three years and I look forward to continuing to work with the future of Alexandria Soccer."  Ryan Quinn.

Dates: 4/7, 4/14, 4/21, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19

4:00-5:00pm - U8/U9 Girls

Goal Keeper Training- (note age group changes)

ASA is continuing to provide goal keeper training throughout the spring season.  We have seen a lot of growth in this program over the past few seasons.  The clinics will be run by Zack Bass again this season.  Zack holds an NSCAA Advanced Region Diploma and the NSCAA Goalkeeping Level I Diploma.

Team Assignment Information and Office Hours

If you have not heard from a coach regarding team assignment by Sunday March 16th, please contact your age-group coordinator.

You can locate your age-group coordinator by clicking on Contact Information on the left side of the screen, and then clicking on Age Coordinator Contacts.

 

If you have not yet picked up your uniform items, you may pick them up during the regular office hours of 9:15 am to 12:15 (on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays).  The office is closed to the public on Mondays and Fridays.  Please call the office at 703-684-5425 if you are unable to come in during regular hours and we will try to make other arrangements for uniform pick-up. 

Registration for Spring is now closed.  Check back at this website in late August for information on Fall Registration.

 

 

U10/11 Girls Fall 2007 Season.
The combined U10/U11 girl’s recreational teams had an exciting and competitive season. The teams were well matched and enjoyed the enhanced division. The coaches were impressed with the girl’s development over the season – and the excitement at the final tournament was palpable. The teams were very evenly matched as is evidenced by the fact that the first place team, the Shooting Stars coached by Jennifer Goodrum, fell to the last place team, the Eagles coached by Colleen Cassidy. Each week the girls showed up to win and grew in both skill and teamwork. There were multiple tie games and quite a few nail biters. Both divisions welcomed new players and have solid teams with a total of 9 teams. The combined group added spirit and competition to the game.

A Few Success Stories
JANICE JOHNSON
Over the past year Janice Johnson of the U16 Division I Arrow’s has taken part in the Olympic Development Program (ODP). This is a US Youth Soccer Program to identify players of the highest caliber for the US National Teams. She has gone through district, regions and state selections and was recently one of two girls selected from the state of Virginia to attend the U16 National Team Camp in Florida. At camp the players were split into teams and trained by the National team coaches and staff throughout the week. They competed in a tournament format and Janice’s team won the tournament. This was Janice’s first year in the ODP program and it is very unusual to make it that far in the first year. We are anxiously awaiting Janice’s call up to the national team. Until then Janice will compete with the U16 VA ODP State Team. Janice has a tremendous work ethic and shows amazing potential.  She spends countless hours training throughout the season. We know there is a bright future for Janice and look forward to watching her reach all of her goals. 
  
U12 DYNAMO ELITE – COLUMBUS DAY TOURNAMENT
October 2007
Alexandria Soccer Association’s U12 Boys team Dynamo Elite won the recent Great Falls VIP Columbus Day Tournament. In their six-team division Dynamo Elite opened the tournament by tying the Ashburn Extreme 1-1, but then caught their stride, and beat the Reston Rampage 2-0, the Herndon Raptors in the semifinals by 2-0 and in the finals the Ashburn Extreme again 3-1.
 
Multiple goal scorers for the Dynamo Elite were Colin Bell, Tommy Hart, Kevin Ortez. Yousef Beidas, Jack Clare, Aidan Fielding (Dynamo’s master of set pieces), Aaron Cargas and Camille El-Baba kept continuous pressure on the opposing defenses, and were clearly dominant in shots-on-goal and corner kicks.
 
The defense which surrendered only two goals all tournament was anchored by Connor Ortman in the goal and by Jack Hall and Randy Harrell who continuously picked off clearing attempts to keep the ball in the offensive half of the field.
 
The Dynamo competes in the Northern Capitol Soccer League, and with a 5-3-1 record and 49 goals scored.  This was not only the most number of goals scored in our division but in the entire age group as well.
